Richard W. Lieban Endowed Scholarship for Anthropology
This scholarship is awarded each year to support the research work of one or more PhD students progressing toward completion of their degree. The specific terms of the award--purpose, amount, eligibility, and selection criteria--are given in the call for applications.
Lieban Endowed Scholarships have been given to support doctoral research at both the proposal preparation and dissertation write-up stages.
The goal of pre-dissertation research awards is to strengthen dissertation projects through support for proposals for extramural funding.
The goal of dissertation write-up awards is to support, reward, and promote future professionals. Therefore, the criteria for selection emphasize pre-professional activities such as grants, publications, and presentations at meetings. The awards committee will not be asked to judge the relative merits of the dissertation projects.
